Surat, Gujarat – Tragedy struck on Thursday as the bodies of seven missing workers were recovered from a chemical manufacturing facility in Surat. The devastating incident occurred a day earlier when a massive fire engulfed the chemical manufacturing complex, reducing it to ashes. Surat Collector Ayush Oak confirmed that one of the deceased was an employee of Aether Industries Ltd, while the remaining six were contract workers.

After an extensive search operation in the factory premises, the officials discovered the bodies of the seven workers who had gone missing during the fire outbreak. The victims have been identified as Divyesh Patel (company employee), Santosh Vishwakarma, Sanat Kumar Mishra, Dharmendra Kumar, Ganesh Prasad, Sunil Kumar, and Abhishek Singh.

Unfortunately, 24 individuals sustained injuries in the incident and are currently undergoing treatment in various hospitals across the city. The fire erupted around 2 am on Wednesday, triggered by an explosion in a large tank that contained inflammable chemicals. The Surat in-charge chief fire officer, Basant Pareek, reported that the blaze took nine arduous hours to bring under control, with 15 fire tenders deployed at the scene.

A statement released by Aether Industries Ltd on November 29, and subsequently submitted to stock exchanges, shed some light on the incident. The company confirmed that the fire originated at their manufacturing site located at Plot No. 8203, GIDC Sachin, Surat, in the early hours of the morning, around 1:50 am. The statement further mentioned that approximately 25 people sustained injuries during the incident.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with industrial operations and the importance of implementing robust safety measures. The authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire and ascertain whether any lapses in safety protocols contributed to the incident.

The loss of these seven lives has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving families devastated and colleagues mourning their untimely demise.
