Seven Bodies Recovered from Chemical Manufacturing Facility Fire in Surat
After a devastating fire broke out in a chemical manufacturing facility located in Surat, Gujarat, the bodies of seven missing workers have been discovered on the premises in the early hours of Thursday. The incident occurred at the plant owned by Aether Industries Ltd in the Sachin industrial area of the city. Surat Collector Ayush Oak confirmed that out of the seven deceased individuals found at the scene, one was an employee of the company, while the other six were working on a contract basis.
According to Oak, “During a thorough search operation within the factory premises, officials were able to locate the bodies of the seven workers who went missing after the fire engulfed the plant on Wednesday.”
The authorities have identified the deceased as Divyesh Patel (company employee), Santosh Vishwakarma, Sanat Kumar Mishra, Dharmendra Kumar, Ganesh Prasad, Sunil Kumar, and Abhishek Singh.
Currently, 24 individuals who were injured in the incident are receiving treatment at various hospitals. The fire erupted at the chemical plant around 2 am on Wednesday following an explosion in a large tank. The explosion occurred due to a leakage of inflammable chemicals stored within the tank, as confirmed by Surat’s in-charge chief fire officer, Basant Pareek.
To combat the blaze, a total of 15 fire tenders were deployed, and the firefighting operation lasted for nine hours until the situation was brought under control.
In a statement submitted to stock exchanges on November 29, Aether Industries Ltd reported, “…We hereby inform that an incident of fire was reported at the manufacturing site of the company at Plot No. 8203, GIDC Sachin, Surat, today early morning around 01:50 Hrs.”
The company also stated that approximately 25 people sustained injuries as a result of the incident.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of ensuring proper safety measures within industrial facilities dealing with hazardous materials. Investigations into the cause of the fire are currently underway, and authorities are determined to hold accountable any parties responsible for negligence or non-compliance with safety regulations.
Local authorities and concerned organizations are also working to provide support and assistance to the families of the deceased workers and those injured in the incident.
