Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : After a chaotic series of events, a 21-year-old man from Spencer, Massachusetts, found himself crashing into the very hospital from which he stole an ambulance. The incident occurred on the evening of November 29th at Heywood Hospital in Gardner.
According to the Ashburnham Fire Department, the man, later identified as Harrison Barjolo, attempted to break into the hospital’s emergency room around 5:40 p.m. Not only did he assault hospital staff, but he also targeted another individual. Ashburnham EMS intervened, and that’s when Barjolo turned his aggression towards them. In a desperate attempt to flee the scene, he commandeered an ambulance and sped away.
Police quickly responded to the situation, attempting to pull Barjolo over. However, he refused to comply, leading to a high-speed pursuit. During the chase, Barjolo collided with another vehicle, prompting additional law enforcement units to join in the pursuit.
In a surprising turn of events, Barjolo eventually circled back to Heywood Hospital, crashing into the pylons outside the ambulance bay. Undeterred, he fled into the emergency room, but his escape was short-lived. Police swiftly apprehended him, bringing an end to the chaotic ordeal.
Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported during the incident, although the stolen ambulance sustained significant damage. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Gardner, Ashburnham, Hubbardston, Rutland, and Massachusetts State Police, collaborated in pursuing and arresting Barjolo. Authorities have reassured the public that there is no longer a threat.
Barjolo now faces a litany of charges, including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, leaving the scene of both property damage and personal injury accidents, assault and battery on an elder, assault and battery on ambulance personnel, simple assault and battery, and several other motor vehicle-related charges. Police are continuing their investigation, and additional charges may be forthcoming.
The bizarre incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of criminal behavior, as well as the tireless efforts of law enforcement officials to ensure public safety.
