Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Police authorities have successfully apprehended four individuals, including two Chinese nationals and two Thais, for their alleged involvement in romance-investment scams. This major breakthrough has led to the seizure of assets amounting to approximately 300 million baht. The arrests and confiscations were executed during raids conducted at five different locations in Bangkok and Samut Prakan on Tuesday.

The Central Investigation Bureau’s chief, Pol Lt Gen Jirabhop Bhuridej, disclosed that the Chinese suspects have been identified as Hongling Ruan, 44, and Zhao Yue, 59. Meanwhile, the Thai individuals arrested were Lawan Thawee-apiradeepoon and Sawiktree Angkabut, both females. These individuals have been charged with public fraud, computer crime, participation in a transnational crime organization, and money laundering.

It is worth noting that Pol Lt Gen Jirabhop Bhuridej has linked these suspects to nine other Thai and Chinese individuals who were previously arrested. The modus operandi of the gang involved utilizing fictitious Facebook profiles of attractive women to entice unsuspecting victims into romance and cryptocurrency investment scams.

Interestingly, one of the newly apprehended Chinese suspects is the spouse of the renowned 28-year-old Thai model, Jakkreena Chookhaowsri, popularly known as Kiki Maxim. Kiki Maxim is among the group of nine suspects who were previously apprehended, collectively amassing a staggering total of one billion baht in assets.

Pol Maj Gen Athip Pongsiwapai, the commander of the Technology Crime Suppression Division, shed light on the gang’s money laundering activities. He revealed that the ill-gotten gains were laundered through the acquisition of luxurious properties and vehicles, as well as investments in upscale lounges and restaurants.

In a significant development, the total value of impounded assets has now surpassed 1.3 billion baht. Among the seized assets are 19 opulent houses, 14 extravagant vehicles, and 6 million baht in cash.

These recent arrests and asset seizures signify a significant blow to the criminal network involved in romance-investment scams. The successful operation conducted by the police demonstrates their commitment to combating such fraudulent activities and safeguarding the public from falling victim to these schemes.
