Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Troopers from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol are currently conducting an investigation into a tragic hit and run incident that took place in Brunswick County on Wednesday night. The incident resulted in the death of an 80-year-old pedestrian, identified as Joseph Willis Butler from Shallotte.
According to a news release by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the pedestrian was walking west, attempting to cross from Mt. Zion Church Road in Longwood to the west shoulder of N.C. 904. The purpose of the pedestrian’s crossing was to offer assistance to a vehicle that had ended up in a ditch. However, during the crossing, the pedestrian was struck by an unidentified vehicle traveling south on N.C. 904.
The collision occurred at approximately 8:39 p.m., and unfortunately, the driver who caused the accident did not remain at the scene. As a result, the hit and run vehicle’s operator is still at large, prompting an ongoing investigation by authorities.
