CALIFORNIA CITY, Calif. — Tragedy struck on Wednesday night when a 27-year-old woman from California City lost her life after being hit by a car on California City Boulevard. The victim has been identified as Leah Makiah Ida Phillips, the driver of an eastbound vehicle on California City Boulevard.
According to a press release from the Cal City Police Department, Phillips had pulled her vehicle onto the dirt shoulder before exiting and unexpectedly running into traffic. Unfortunately, she was struck by a 2019 Toyota Avalon driven by a 73-year-old man from Mojave.
Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene near Deep Well Street at 6:26 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found Phillips lying on the eastbound dirt shoulder of California City Boulevard. Despite the tireless efforts of first responders to save her life, Phillips tragically succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, but at this point, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors contributing to the collision.
