Malati Barik : “Cremation Delayed by 30 Hours as Sons Fight Over Mother’s Death in Odisha Village”

Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Cremation of a 90-year-old woman in Balasore, Odisha, was delayed for over 30 hours due to a heated dispute between her two sons. The deceased woman, identified as Malati Barik of Simulia village, passed away on Tuesday, but her final rites were not performed until Wednesday, following police intervention.

Sources reveal that Malati had two sons, Nanda Kishore and Govind, who had an ongoing dispute. Consequently, she had been residing with Govind. On the fateful morning, Malati suffered a severe fall in the bathroom, resulting in fatal injuries. Govind’s wife promptly rushed her to the Soro Community Health Centre (CHC) in an auto-rickshaw, where doctors declared her dead. Subsequently, the body was transported back to the village.

Upon receiving the news of their mother’s demise, Nanda Kishore arrived at Simulia village and accused Govind of neglecting their mother, holding him responsible for her death. The siblings engaged in a fierce quarrel, exacerbating the already strained relationship.

Later that afternoon, Nanda Kishore urgently visited the local police station and filed a First Information Report (FIR), alleging that Govind had murdered their mother. Responding to the complaint, the police registered a case of unnatural death and proceeded to investigate the matter in the village. However, due to the late hour, the doctor at Soro CHC declined to conduct a postmortem examination. Consequently, the body was taken to Simulia village the following day after the completion of the autopsy.

Soro IIC Prabhanshu Mishra confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, delving into the circumstances surrounding Malati’s death. The delay in cremation caused distress to the family and highlighted the deep-rooted animosity between the two brothers.

By resolving the dispute and allowing the cremation to proceed, the police played a crucial role in bringing closure to the family during this difficult time. It is essential to foster harmony and unity within families, especially during moments of grief and loss. The investigation will continue to shed light on the events leading up to Malati Barik’s tragic demise and provide clarity for her grieving sons.
