Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Tragedy Strikes in Fulton County: Man Loses Life in Hunting Accident

A devastating incident unfolded in Fulton County last weekend as a beloved community member lost his life while pursuing his passion. Raymond “Ed” Seville Jr., a 76-year-old resident of Fulton County, was hunting on the first day of Pennsylvania’s rifle deer season when a fire engulfed his tree stand in Belfast Township. The unfortunate incident claimed his life, leaving the community in shock and mourning. Fulton County Coroner Berley Souders confirmed the tragic news.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday when fire and EMS personnel from Needmore’s Co. 55 were called to the scene in the 900 block of Gem Road southwest of McConnellsburg. Seville’s remains were found in the tree stand, and it was later determined that he had lost his life in the fire.

According to Seville’s wife, Margaret, who was with him at the time, the fire broke out as he attempted to ignite a heater connected to a propane tank. Flames erupted from the bottom of the heater, filling the tree stand with smoke. Despite her efforts to save him, Margaret was unable to rescue her husband as the structure became fully engulfed in flames.

Seville, who had mobility issues, tragically succumbed to smoke inhalation. He was officially pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner. The community is devastated by the loss of this outdoorsman and family man.

Raymond Seville Jr. and Margaret would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on December 3. Seville, born on March 29, 1947, was known for his love of hunting, particularly in the Western United States. He had a close-knit family and a wide circle of friends who remember him for his infectious laughter and warm presence.

Seville’s obituary highlighted his long-standing career at the H.B. Mellott Co. in Warfordsburg, where he had retired. Pennsylvania’s deer rifle season, which began on the day of the incident, will continue until December 9.

This tragic accident serves as a reminder of the inherent risks involved in outdoor activities, even those pursued with great passion and experience. The community mourns the loss of Raymond Seville Jr., a man who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
