Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Fayetteville Police Chief Kemberle Braden held an unexpected press conference late Wednesday evening to address an ongoing investigation involving a police officer. The officer in question has been identified as 31-year-old Tamyra Billings.
During the briefing, Chief Braden revealed that Billings had been arrested earlier that night. She is facing charges of two counts of misdemeanor obstruction of justice, one count of misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and one count of willfully failing to discharge duties.
The investigation was initiated after an employee within the Fayetteville Police Department came forward on November 26th with information regarding Billings’ alleged involvement in criminal activity. This information promptly led to a criminal investigation, resulting in Billings’ arrest.
Billings joined the Fayetteville Police Department in October 2021. As per standard procedure, she has been placed on administrative leave with pay, pending the outcome of both an internal and criminal investigation. It is important to note that these investigations are separate from each other.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is also involved in the case. They are reviewing the evidence to determine if any additional federal charges should be filed against Billings.
Chief Braden emphasized that this investigation is unrelated to a previous case in October, where another officer, Izreal Gear-Johnson, was charged in connection with “illegal narcotic activity.” Gear-Johnson, 23, was also placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the internal investigation.
It is crucial for the community to have trust and confidence in their police force. Instances like these can undermine that trust. The Fayetteville Police Department is committed to conducting a thorough investigation to ensure transparency and accountability.
ABC11 is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
