Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Three new suspects have been identified in relation to the hundreds of patient deaths at Gosport War Memorial Hospital, police have revealed. This brings the total number of suspects in the investigation to 22. The deaths occurred between 1989 and 2000, with at least 456 patients having their lives shortened by the treatment they received at the hospital.

The opioid scandal at Gosport War Memorial Hospital came to light earlier this year when an independent panel review reported that patients had been prescribed “dangerous doses” of opioids between 1987 and 2001. This led to the launch of Operation Magenta, an ongoing investigation by Kent Police into potential criminal prosecutions against doctors and nurses involved.

The investigation has been described as one of the largest and most complex in the history of UK policing. Over three million documents have been examined and more than 750 patient records have been assessed as part of the inquiry. The investigation is considering a range of criminal offenses, including homicide and those under the Health and Safety at Work Act.

On Tuesday, over 100 relatives of patients who died at the hospital attended a meeting to receive an update from police. Deputy Chief Constable Neil Jerome, who heads up Operation Magenta, assured the families that the investigation is making good progress and that they are working as quickly and thoroughly as possible to ensure a decisive outcome.

The families of those who died have long campaigned for prosecutions to be brought over the deaths, and they have been informed that among the suspects identified by Operation Magenta are individuals who will be interviewed under caution for alleged health and safety offenses.

The investigation into the deaths at Gosport War Memorial Hospital has been ongoing for several years, and the identification of these new suspects marks a significant development in the case. The families of the victims hope that justice will finally be served for their loved ones.
