Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office has officially charged 30-year-old Corbin Hippensteel with murder in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred on November 27 in Columbus, Indiana. Court documents filed on Friday indicate that Hippensteel is facing one count of murder in relation to the incident on Joseph Cox Court.
According to previous reports, the Columbus Police Department received a call about shots fired on November 27 and discovered 54-year-old Alejandro Flores with a gunshot wound. Flores was pronounced dead shortly after. A family member of Hippensteel called 911 that afternoon and informed the police that Hippensteel had shot and killed someone in their home.
When officers arrived, they were able to locate Hippensteel based on the description provided by the family member. Hippensteel was taken into custody, but no firearm was found on him at the time. In an interview, the family member revealed that Hippensteel had been agitated throughout the day. Flores, who was a friend of Hippensteel, had come over to the house, and they were engaged in a conversation.
According to the family member, there was no argument, but suddenly, Hippensteel threatened to shoot Flores in the head and pointed a revolver at him. The family member heard a click, as if the trigger had been pulled, and yelled at Hippensteel to put the gun down. As the family member approached Hippensteel, a shot was fired, hitting Flores. The family member fled the scene and called 911.
Police conducted a search of the premises and found Flores’ body, along with a Heritage Rough Rider .22 caliber revolver and ammunition. They also searched a camp where Hippensteel was believed to be staying and discovered property belonging to him, as well as additional .22 caliber ammunition.
The Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the case is pending in Bartholomew Circuit Court, and Hippensteel is currently being held without bond at the Bartholomew County Jail.
