Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : PITTSFIELD, MASS. (WHDH) – Authorities have confirmed the identity of the service member whose body was found after a tragic incident involving a US military Osprey aircraft crash off the coast of Japan. The deceased has been identified as Staff Sgt. Jacob Galliher, a brave airman hailing from Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
The unfortunate incident occurred on Wednesday, November 29, when the CV-22B Osprey carrying Galliher and seven other crew members crashed off the shore of Yakushima Island. Regrettably, Galliher is the only individual to have been recovered and identified so far.
The Pittsfield Police Department took to Facebook to express their condolences to Galliher’s family. They described him as a man who served his country with pride, leaving behind a grieving wife and two young sons, aged 2 and just 6 weeks old. The police department also extended their sympathies to the families of the other seven crew members who are still missing.
U.S. Rep. Richard Neal also offered his heartfelt condolences to Galliher’s parents during this difficult time. He acknowledged the indescribable pain of losing a child and praised Galliher’s commitment to serving his country. Neal’s thoughts and prayers are with Galliher’s family, especially his mother, father, wife, and two sons. The entire Pittsfield community, along with a grateful nation, mourns the loss of this exceptional individual.
