Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Police in Puyallup, Washington, have confirmed that the man shot and killed by Pierce County Sheriff’s Department deputies on November 28 was James Salanoa Jr., the suspect accused of kidnapping and raping a woman at gunpoint outside the Tacoma Mall just days before. The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office identified Salanoa as a 22-year-old male.
The incident took place on November 18, when Salanoa allegedly kidnapped and raped a woman in her car outside the Tacoma Mall. The Tacoma Police Department immediately launched a search for Salanoa and asked for the public’s assistance in locating him. Law enforcement officials stated that Salanoa was wanted for multiple violent felonies and had attempted to flee from deputies when he was found on the evening of November 28.
The fatal encounter occurred when Salanoa’s vehicle came to a stop near a state Route 512 ramp close to the South Hill Mall. Salanoa exited the vehicle armed with a handgun, prompting several deputies to open fire, resulting in his death. Fortunately, no deputies, civilians, or the individuals accompanying Salanoa in the car were injured during the incident.
Salanoa had a history of criminal activity, including charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm, and armed robbery. He had previously pleaded guilty to some of these offenses and had served time in prison. At the time of the shooting, there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest in connection to an armed robbery that occurred in June.
The Pierce County Force Investigation Team is currently examining the shooting to determine if the deputies’ use of force was justified. The investigation aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the events leading up to Salanoa’s death, ensuring transparency and accountability.
