Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Noida: A car driver who allegedly ran over two people and injured six outside a factory in Sector 83 on Sunday has been apprehended by the police. The suspect, identified as Piyush Kumar, is a freelance content writer and resides in a housing society in Sector 78. After the accident, Kumar fled to his hometown in Bihar but was eventually arrested by the authorities.
The incident took place around 1am when the eight victims, all in their twenties, were returning to their rented accommodations after finishing their shift at the factory. The speeding SUV driven by Kumar rammed into them, resulting in the death of two individuals and injuring six others. The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed near the spot.
According to DCP (Central Noida) Suniti, the driver did not stop to check on the injured workers and immediately fled the scene. One of the workers, Mohammed Islam, died before reaching the hospital, while another worker, Imamudin, succumbed to his injuries during treatment at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital. Two other workers with severe injuries were also referred to Safdarjung Hospital for further treatment.
The police were able to identify the SUV from the CCTV footage and traced it to a friend of Kumar who resides near Sector 112. During interrogation, Kumar admitted that he fell asleep at the wheel and accidentally hit the workers who were walking on the side of the road.
Kumar has been arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including rash driving, causing hurt, causing grievous hurt, and culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
In recent news, an SUV in Panchkula collided with three vehicles, injuring a pickup driver. The incident occurred in the Sector-11 residential area and involved an intoxicated youth driving the SUV. In another incident in Kolkata, the driver and passenger of a Mercedes involved in an accident had attended a party and borrowed the car from a friend. The police are currently investigating the case and collecting CCTV footage to determine the cause of the accident.
In a separate incident in Bastar, two workers were killed and one severely injured in a pressure-triggered IED explosion near an iron ore mine. The incident occurred in the Narayanpur district, close to the Maharashtra border. The authorities have identified the deceased as Ritesh Gagda and Shravan Gagda, while the injured worker, Umesh Rana, is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
