Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A judge has set bail at $500,000 for Jemarcus Williams, the 46-year-old man accused in a tragic hit-and-run crash that claimed the lives of two Nevada State Police troopers in Las Vegas. Williams appeared in court for the first time on Friday morning following the early morning crash that occurred on a freeway in Las Vegas.
During the court proceedings, prosecutors revealed that an arrest report from Las Vegas indicated that Williams had been drinking at the Palms and was escorted out by security due to his intoxication. The security personnel at the Palms had warned Williams that they would call the police if he attempted to drive his vehicle. Believing he had left the premises, security stopped monitoring him. However, Williams took advantage of the situation and emerged from behind a tree, getting into his vehicle and driving away.
The tragic incident unfolded when the two troopers stopped to investigate a vehicle with a seemingly unconscious driver. It was at this moment that a Chevy HHR, driven by Williams, struck the two troopers before fleeing the scene. Later in the morning, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) conducted a grid search and apprehended Williams after a barricade situation at an apartment complex near Monroe Avenue and J Street.
Court records indicate that Williams is facing several charges, including two counts of reckless driving, two counts of DUI of alcohol and/or controlled or prohibited substances resulting in death, and two counts of duty to stop at the scene of an accident.
Nevada State Police have identified the fallen officers as Sergeant Michael Abbate and Trooper Alberto Felix. The loss of these brave individuals has left the law enforcement community and the local community in deep sorrow.
The case has attracted significant attention, with the judge setting a substantial bail amount due to the severity of the charges and the tragic loss of life. Williams will remain in custody pending further legal proceedings.
As this devastating incident continues to unfold, the focus remains on seeking justice for the fallen officers and their families, as well as ensuring that the responsible party is held accountable for their actions.
