Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Miami, FL – A 16-year-old teenager has been charged with attempted murder after a drive-by shooting in Miami left one person hospitalized last month. The incident occurred on October 18th around 11:30 a.m. outside of a grocery store in the 6900 block of Northwest 17th Avenue.
Upon their arrival, detectives discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The injured individual was immediately transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center for treatment. According to an arrest report, a male companion of the victim stated to the police that as they were leaving the corner store, they noticed a black Maxima following them. The person inside the vehicle, identified as 16-year-old Omari Afelix Terry from Miami, opened fire multiple times in their direction.
The victim recounted that as he and his friend were running away for safety, he was struck by a bullet in the thigh. In an attempt to protect himself, he hid in the nearby bushes. The black Maxima fled the scene in an unknown direction after the shooting.
Miami police detectives investigating the incident found seven bullet casings scattered between the parking lot and Northwest 70th Street. The second victim’s statement corroborated the account given by the male who was shot. Further investigation led detectives to obtain video footage of the shooting from a nearby business.
During the interrogation, Terry waived his Miranda rights and provided a statement to the police. However, the details of his statement were redacted in the arrest report. Terry denied the allegations of possessing a gun and claimed that he had given it to 19-year-old Denzel Robinson, who was also present in the vehicle at the time of the shooting.
Terry was taken into custody on October 20th at approximately 4 p.m. and was subsequently transported to a nearby juvenile assessment center. Court records show that Terry is currently facing one count of second-degree attempted murder. He is currently being held without bond at the Metrowest Detention Center in Miami-Dade County.
The case remains under investigation as authorities work to gather additional evidence and witness statements.
