Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Indian Student Rescued After Months of Captivity and Brutal Assault in Missouri

In a shocking incident, the Missouri Police have apprehended three men on charges of kidnapping and assaulting a 20-year-old Indian student. The victim, whose identity has been withheld, had arrived in the United States from India last year to pursue his studies at the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla. However, his dreams turned into a nightmare as he endured a horrific ordeal at the hands of his own cousin and two other culprits.

The rescued student, currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital, suffered multiple bone fractures, lacerations, and injuries all over his body. Sources reveal that he was held captive for over seven months, deprived of access to basic amenities such as restroom facilities, and subjected to relentless physical abuse. Additionally, he was coerced into performing various tasks across three different residences.

This harrowing incident came to light when a concerned citizen, who had become aware of the student’s plight, alerted the authorities. Acting promptly, the police arrived at a rural highway home in St Charles County, where they apprehended the accused – Venkatesh R Sattaru, Sravan Varma Penumetcha, and Nikhil Verma Penmatsa. The charges against them include human trafficking, kidnapping, and assault.

According to the police investigation, the student was forcibly taken to Sattaru’s residence in April and was immediately subjected to a grueling routine. He was compelled to work for Sattaru’s IT company during the day and complete additional household chores in the evenings. Shockingly, for the duration of his captivity, the victim was confined to a basement, forced to sleep on an unfinished floor, and denied access to a bathroom. To sustain himself, he resorted to rummaging through restaurant dumpsters for scraps of food.

Authorities have described this incident as “absolutely inhumane and unconscionable,” expressing their deep concern for the victim’s well-being. Further investigation revealed that Sattaru owned three different properties in Defiance, Dardenne Prairie, and O’Fallon, where the student was held against his will. Sattaru, considered the ringleader, resided in the O’Fallon home with his wife and children. In addition to the aforementioned charges, he faces accusations of human trafficking and contributing to human trafficking through the misuse of documentation.

Meanwhile, Penumetcha and Penmatsa, who were also living in the same residence as the victim, have been taken into custody as well. Law enforcement officials were initially denied entry into the premises, but eventually gained access when the student managed to escape from the basement, trembling uncontrollably and bearing the physical scars of his torment.

As the investigation unfolds, the focus now shifts to ensuring justice for the victim and holding the perpetrators accountable for their heinous actions. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need to combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable individuals from falling prey to such atrocities.
