Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Three people tragically lost their lives in a road accident near Salem on Thursday. The incident occurred when a truck collided with a pick-up van that was used for transporting goods. The van passengers, M Praveenkumar, 27, from Villupuram, Sudarshan, 40, from Arakkonam, and Prakasam, 52, from Gudiyatham, were all crushed to death in the collision. The truck driver, Pechimuthu from Tirunelveli, was hospitalized with severe injuries.

According to the police, the accident took place as Pechimuthu was traveling from Nilavarapatti to Chennai after loading empty cool drink bottles onto his truck. Near Kilakukadu, the truck rammed into the van coming from the opposite direction. The impact of the collision completely damaged the front portion of the van, trapping all three passengers inside the mangled vehicle.

Passers-by at the scene attempted to rescue the victims but were unable to free them from the wreckage. They immediately alerted the police and fire service personnel. Vazhapadi DSP P Harishankari and her team arrived at the accident site, but unfortunately, by that time, the three passengers had already succumbed to their injuries. After an hour-long struggle, the bodies were retrieved from the vehicle by fire and rescue services personnel and sent for postmortem.

The accident resulted in traffic congestion on the Salem-Chennai highway for nearly an hour. A crane was brought in from a nearby tollgate to remove the vehicles involved in the accident and clear the road. Meanwhile, Pechimuthu was taken to Vazhapadi government hospital for treatment. Although he suffered a fracture in his leg, his condition was reported as stable by the police.

Road accidents continue to pose a significant threat to public safety, and this incident serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of road safety measures. Authorities must work diligently to enforce traffic rules and regulations to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.

In related news, a similar accident occurred in West Bengal’s Hooghly district on Wednesday, where a van transporting construction workers was struck by a truck, resulting in the death of four laborers. Another incident took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Basti, where three members of the same family were killed after being struck by a goods train. These incidents highlight the need for increased awareness and stricter implementation of safety measures on the roads.
