Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Tel Aviv [Israel], December 1 – A tragic incident unfolded on Thursday morning in Jerusalem when two Palestinian terrorists opened fire at a busy bus stop. Yuval Doron Castleman, a 37-year-old attorney, bravely fought back but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. Castleman, along with two off-duty soldiers, managed to neutralize the terrorists, but he was mistakenly shot by the soldiers, who mistook him for another assailant. With Castleman’s death, the total number of casualties from the attack has now risen to four.
The victims of this heinous act of violence include Rabbi Elimelech Wasserman, a respected judge in the rabbinical court in Ashdod, Hanna Ifergan, a dedicated 67-year-old school principal from Beit Shemesh, and 24-year-old Livia Dickman from Jerusalem. Five others who were injured in the attack are currently receiving treatment in hospitals.
The two terrorists responsible for the shooting have been identified as Murad Nemer and his brother, Ibrahim, both residents of eastern Jerusalem. Both individuals, who were in their 30s, had previously been imprisoned for their involvement in terror activities and were associated with Hamas. Murad had served a ten-year sentence from 2010 to 2020 for planning attacks under the guidance of terror commanders in Gaza.
Hamas, a Palestinian militant group, has claimed responsibility for this attack, as stated in a statement posted on the messaging platform Telegram. In response to this act of terror, the Israeli authorities have decided to increase patrols in the city and have marked the Nemers’ home for demolition.
Minister-without-Portfolio Benny Gantz, a member of the War Cabinet, emphasized that this attack further strengthens Israel’s determination to combat Hamas in the Gaza Strip. He stated, “This terror attack is further proof of our obligation to continue to fight with strength and determination against murderous terrorism, which threatens our citizens.”
National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, on the other hand, highlighted the importance of easing gun permit regulations. In the wake of the recent Hamas massacre on October 7, there has been a surge in requests for gun licenses. Ben-Gvir emphasized, “This event proves once again how much we must not show weakness, how much we should talk to Hamas only through the intentions, only through the war.”
As Israel mourns the loss of Yuval Doron Castleman, the nation stands united in its commitment to safeguarding its citizens and combating terrorism in all its forms.
