Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Los Angeles authorities are on high alert as they search for a suspected serial killer responsible for the murders of three homeless individuals. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has launched an extensive investigation into the three separate attacks, all of which occurred in the early morning hours over a few days in November.
The first murder took place on November 26th at around 3:00 a.m. in an alley in the southeast area of Los Angeles. The victim, identified as Jose Vamos, was a 37-year-old male. The second murder occurred the following day at approximately 5:00 a.m. in the Central Division. The victim, Mark Digs, was 62 years old. The third murder occurred on November 29th around 2:30 a.m., and the victim was a 52-year-old male.
According to LAPD Chief Michel Moore, all three victims were shot and killed while they were sleeping or preparing to go to sleep. In response to these heinous crimes, the LAPD will be increasing patrols in areas where homeless people gather. Additionally, a task force has been created to track down the serial killer.
Chief Moore stated, “We’re bringing homicide investigators from throughout the city. We’re bringing additional investigators from specialized posts, and we have placed our forensic science division on ready to quickly process and analyze any forensic evidence gathered in an effort to identify the person responsible for these three homicides.” The LAPD has also reached out to law enforcement agencies in neighboring cities to determine if there have been similar murders.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, a Democrat, expressed her concern, saying, “This is a killer preying on the unhoused.” She urged the homeless community to seek shelter, services, and support, and encouraged everyone to stay together and spread the word to ensure no one sleeps alone.
The LAPD has released two photos, one of the suspect and another of a dark-colored sedan believed to be involved in the murders. They are urging anyone with information to contact the tipline at (213) 486-6890.
The recent killings have heightened alarm within Los Angeles’ homeless community, which has seen a 10% increase in population over the past year, according to a count completed earlier this year. The city has been grappling with providing housing for its homeless population, with approximately 70% remaining unsheltered.
As the investigation continues, Los Angeles authorities are determined to bring the serial killer to justice and ensure the safety of the city’s homeless population.
