The incident took place in Hind Motor and came to light after locals noticed a foul smell emanating from the flat where the mother-son duo resided.
The deceased has been identified as Kalyani Hazra, a retired bank employee, who passed away approximately three days ago. She lived with her son, Subhranil Hazra, who is believed to be suffering from a mental disorder. Neighbors and domestic help informed the police that the door of the flat had been locked for the past three days. Subhranil had been preventing the domestic help from entering, claiming that his mother was sleeping under sedation.
“The foul smell started emitting from the house on Friday evening, but it was mild, so none of us suspected anything. However, on Saturday morning, the stench became unbearable. When the domestic help shared Subhranil’s peculiar behavior, we decided to inform the police,” a concerned neighbor said.
Neighbors also revealed that both the mother and son were reclusive and rarely interacted with others in the local community. Visitors to their residence were a rare occurrence, according to the neighbors.
