Man Killed in Central Omaha Crash

OMAHA, NEBRASKA – A tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Sunday morning when a man lost his life in a single-vehicle crash in central Omaha. The Omaha Police Department (OPD) confirmed the fatality and provided preliminary details of the incident.

According to the OPD, emergency services received a distress call reporting a crash at the intersection of 99th and U Streets shortly after 5 a.m. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a severely damaged 2020 Toyota Corolla. Initial investigations revealed that the vehicle, traveling north on U Street, had veered off the road, collided with a curb, become airborne, and ultimately crashed head-on into a tree. The impact was so intense that the engine compartment caught fire, but thanks to the swift response of the Omaha Fire Department, the flames were promptly extinguished.

Tragically, the driver and sole occupant of the Toyota Corolla, identified as 30-year-old Alfredo Garcia Hidalgo from Omaha, did not survive the crash. Hidalgo was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving behind a community grieving over his untimely demise.

The OPD has initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. They will be examining multiple factors, including the speed of the vehicle, road conditions, and any potential mechanical issues, to determine the cause of the accident. While the investigation is ongoing, authorities are urging anyone with information or witnesses to come forward and assist in shedding light on the incident.

As this is a developing story, 6 News will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of Alfredo Garcia Hidalgo during this difficult time.
