Alison Marshall : “21-year-old Newbury Park man to face murder charge after attacking mother with hammer”

Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Newbury Park Man to Face Murder Charge for Allegedly Attacking Mother with a Hammer

Prosecutors are preparing to file a murder charge against a 21-year-old man from Newbury Park following the death of his 63-year-old mother on Friday. Alison Marshall, the victim, passed away on Friday afternoon at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, as confirmed by Captain Dean Worthy, spokesperson for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

Earlier, the suspect, Scott Goldberg, had been charged with attempted murder of his mother after the incident that occurred on November 19. The attack took place inside their family home on Mayfield Court in Newbury Park. Goldberg was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon against his 64-year-old father, who survived the attack.

In light of the victim’s death, the District Attorney’s Office is now working to upgrade the charges against Goldberg to murder, which is expected to take effect starting Monday. Erin Meister, supervising senior deputy DA, stated that the necessary arrangements were being made for the transition.

Initially held in county jail on a bail of around $500,000, Goldberg’s bail was subsequently denied by Superior Court Judge Patricia Murphy at the prosecution’s request. This decision ensures that Goldberg will remain in custody until his trial.

Goldberg has not yet entered a plea to the original charges, and it remains unclear whether the upgraded charge will affect the scheduled arraignment on December 20. As of now, he remains in custody at the county’s main jail in Ventura.
