Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : French authorities have launched an investigation into a potential terrorist plot following a violent attack in central Paris over the weekend. The attacker, identified as Armand Rajabpour-Miyandoab, a French national of Iranian descent, stabbed a tourist to death and injured two others near the Eiffel Tower. The incident occurred at around 9:00 pm on Saturday, amidst heightened security measures in France due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Terrorism prosecutors have stated that they are examining the assailant’s background and motives. It has been revealed that Rajabpour-Miyandoab, known to authorities for his extremist views, shouted “Allahu Akbar” (Arabic for “God is greatest”) during the attack. He expressed his anger over the loss of Muslim lives in Afghanistan and Palestine, accusing France of complicity in Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip.
The 23-year-old victim, a German-Filipino citizen, tragically lost his life, but a brave taxi driver managed to prevent the attacker from harming his wife. Both the injured victims, a 66-year-old British citizen and a 60-year-old French national, suffered superficial physical injuries, although they are expected to experience significant psychological trauma.
Prosecutors have detained three individuals connected to Rajabpour-Miyandoab as part of their ongoing investigation. The suspect himself was apprehended at the scene and faces charges of murder and attempted murder in connection with a terrorist plot. This is not the first time he has come to the attention of law enforcement; in 2016, he received a four-year prison sentence for planning an attack in the La Défense business district of Paris.
As the investigation continues, government officials, including Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne and Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, are convening a security meeting to address the incident. Borne has emphasized that France will not bow down to terrorism, while President Emmanuel Macron has extended his condolences to the victim’s family.
The attacker’s mental health issues are also under scrutiny, with authorities acknowledging his unstable and easily influenced state of mind. He had been receiving monitoring and treatment for his mental health problems but was not currently hospitalized.
In light of this tragic event, the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, expressed his devastation and solidarity with the victims and their families. Germany’s Interior Minister, Nancy Faeser, further highlighted the acute and serious threat posed by Islamist terrorism, particularly in the aftermath of the recent conflict in Gaza.
The French authorities are determined to uncover all the details surrounding this heinous act of violence and ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
