Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Man with Radical Islamist Ties and Mental Health Issues Stabs Tourist in Paris
In a shocking incident that occurred late Saturday night in central Paris, a man with a history of radical Islamism and mental health troubles stabbed a tourist to death and injured two others. The attack took place near the iconic Eiffel Tower, a popular tourist destination, at around 9:00 pm. French authorities, already on high alert due to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, immediately launched an investigation into a suspected “terrorist plot.”
The attacker, identified as Armand Rajabpour-Miyandoab, a French national born in 1997 to Iranian parents, was apprehended shortly after the knife and hammer attack. Prosecutors specializing in terrorist incidents are looking into his background and connections. The 23-year-old victim, a German-Filipino citizen, tragically lost his life, while a 66-year-old British citizen and a 60-year-old French national sustained injuries.
At the moment of the attack, Rajabpour-Miyandoab shouted “Allahu Akbar,” an Arabic phrase meaning “God is greatest.” Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin revealed that the suspect expressed his anger over the killing of Muslims in Afghanistan and Palestine, blaming France for its alleged complicity in Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip.
President Emmanuel Macron expressed his condolences to the victim’s family, labeling the incident a “terrorist attack.” Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne also condemned the act of terrorism, vowing that France will not succumb to such violence. The swift arrest of the suspect was credited to the intervention of a brave taxi driver who witnessed the scene.
The attacker’s medical history, as well as his previous criminal record, are being closely examined. Reports indicate that Rajabpour-Miyandoab had previously been sentenced to four years in prison in 2016 for planning another attack in Paris, which was ultimately foiled.
France has unfortunately experienced numerous attacks by Islamist extremists in recent years, including the devastating 2015 attacks in Paris carried out by the Islamic State group. While the country had experienced a relative lull in such incidents, tensions have been heightened due to the conflict between Israel and Hamas. With the 2024 Summer Olympic Games approaching, security in Paris is under increased scrutiny.
As the investigation continues, authorities are determined to uncover any potential links between the attacker and extremist networks. The incident serves as a chilling reminder of the ongoing threat posed by terrorism and the need for vigilant security measures to ensure the safety of residents and visitors alike.
