In a devastating turn of events, a man fell victim to a fatal carjacking on the José de Diego Expressway in Arecibo during the early hours of Saturday morning. The deceased has been identified as Edwin Collazo, who was reportedly entering the highway in Garrochales at the time of the incident. Shockingly, Collazo’s vehicle was later discovered on road 149, bearing details that matched those of the deceased.
The Puerto Rico Police, under the leadership of Lieutenant Francheska Barreto, are diligently investigating the case. Their primary focus is on exploring the theory that Collazo was intercepted by one or more individuals traveling in a stolen 2002 grey Ford Explorer from the Caguas area. It is suspected that these individuals committed the heinous act of murder in order to steal Collazo’s vehicle. As part of their investigation, the police will meticulously review footage from the AutoExpress system’s cameras to determine if additional culprits were involved or if a third vehicle facilitated the escape of the criminals after abandoning the victim’s car in Manatí.

The crime was promptly reported to the 9-1-1 Emergency System at approximately 6:33 a.m. This tragic event necessitated the closure of a section of the José de Diego Highway (PR-22), specifically in the direction from Arecibo to San Juan, for several hours. Normal traffic flow was eventually restored shortly before noon on Saturday.
In an effort to clarify misinformation circulating in other media outlets, Hugo Sorrentini, spokesperson for LUMA Energy, emphasized that Collazo was not an employee of LUMA but was instead employed by IEM, an associated company.
