Tragedy struck in the Omaruru district when a single-vehicle accident claimed the life of one person and left six others injured. Inspector Ileni Shapumba, the head of community policing in the Erongo region, confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred at approximately 11:20 am, ten kilometers from Omaruru, towards the Walfrieden gravel road.

The deceased has been identified as Hefeni Ndahalele Atanasius, a 29-year-old individual. His next of kin have been informed about the devastating news. According to Inspector Shapumba, the vehicle involved in the accident was a JAC double cab, carrying six passengers. Unfortunately, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and resulting in serious injuries to the occupants. Tragically, one of the passengers was ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The remaining occupants were promptly attended to and transported to the Omaruru State Hospital for medical treatment. Among the injured, three victims, including the driver, sustained severe injuries, while the other two victims suffered minor injuries.

In a separate incident that occurred on Saturday morning, a 67-year-old man from Walvis Bay tragically took his own life by shooting himself in the head. Inspector Shapumba provided details of the incident, stating that it took place around 5:30 am at a residence on Khomas Hochland Street, Kuisebmund. Nghilalulwa Johannes, the deceased, bid everyone in the house farewell before going outside. A 16-year-old girl discovered his lifeless body lying next to the washing line, surrounded by a pool of blood, when she went outside to retrieve her face cloth at around 6:00 am. The shocked girl immediately alerted the caretaker of the house, who promptly reported the incident. Authorities suspect that the deceased used a pistol to carry out the act. Medical personnel from Walvis Bay State Hospital were summoned and attended to the distressing scene. The next of kin of Nghilalulwa Johannes have been informed about the tragic event.

The Omaruru district mourns the loss of Hefeni Ndahalele Atanasius and extends its heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. As investigations into both incidents continue, authorities urge the public to adhere to road safety regulations and seek help if they or someone they know is struggling with mental health issues.
