Imtiazuddin Azeem Akhtar : “Man and son die after being bitten by pet cat infected with rabies: Uttar Pradesh tragedy”

Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Man and Son Die after Being Bitten by Pet Cat in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur Dehat District

In a tragic incident in Akbarpur town of Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur Dehat district, a man and his 24-year-old son lost their lives after being bitten by their own pet cat. The cat, which had been bitten by a dog in September and contracted rabies, transmitted the infection to the family unknowingly.

The deceased individuals were identified as Imtiazuddin, a 58-year-old headmaster in a local school, and his son Azeem Akhtar, aged 24. The unfortunate incident occurred approximately two weeks ago when both Imtiazuddin and his son were bitten and scratched by their infected pet cat. Instead of receiving the necessary anti-rabies vaccine, the duo mistakenly received tetanus injections. Tragically, the family did not take the matter seriously even after the cat’s demise a few days later.

On November 21, the family traveled to Bhopal to attend a wedding, where Azeem’s health began rapidly deteriorating. Despite receiving initial treatment in Bhopal, he succumbed to the infection on November 25 while en route to Kanpur. The gravity of the situation escalated on the night of November 29 when Imtiazuddin’s health also started to decline. He was immediately rushed to the Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences in Etawah’s Saifai, but unfortunately, he lost his battle against the infection and passed away on November 30. The family discreetly performed the last rites, opting to keep the development under wraps.

Authorities have now initiated an investigation into the matter. “Everything went unnoticed as the family moved to Bhopal. We are currently gathering additional information from the deceased family. The Chief Medical Officer has been directed to take all necessary measures and conduct a thorough examination of individuals in the area who own pets. Additionally, civic authorities have been instructed to relocate all stray dogs from the vicinity,” stated Kanpur Dehat District Magistrate, Alok Singh.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of proper pet care and vaccination. Pet owners must remain vigilant and ensure their animals receive the necessary medical attention to prevent the spread of potentially life-threatening diseases. The authorities are now working diligently to raise awareness and implement preventive measures to avoid similar tragic incidents in the future.
