Subhodip Bijoli : “Biker Found Dead on Diamond Harbour Road in Kolkata”

Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : KOLKATA: A tragic incident occurred in Kolkata on Saturday morning, as a 30-year-old biker was found dead on Diamond Harbour Road at the Sakherbazar-Borobari intersection, near Behala Chowrasta. The police were alerted to the incident at around 3:18 am when they received a call on Dial 100.

An analysis of CCTV footage revealed that the biker, identified as Subhodip Bijoli, a resident of Raipur near Moynagar in Maheshtala, was traveling towards Behala Chowrasta from the Thakurpukur side when the accident took place. The footage showed that a mini-truck traveling directly behind the bike slightly touched the bike’s side. As the truck crossed the bike, the biker lost his balance and skidded on DH Road, resulting in the fatal accident.

This unfortunate incident marks the seventh fatal accident on the Taratala-Joka stretch in Behala this year, and the second fatal bike accident in as many days during the early morning hours.

In response to these incidents, the police are planning ‘moholla’ meetings to raise awareness about safe riding practices. Additionally, special raids against two-wheelers are being carried out daily, with officers visiting slum areas and local two-wheeler garages to inform young riders about the dangers of breaking traffic rules.

Addressing claims that the victim was left unattended on DH Road following the accident, the police clarified that teams from the local Thakurpukur police station and Thakurpukur traffic guard reached the scene within a few minutes. The victim was immediately rushed to Vidyasagar Hospital, where he was sadly declared brought dead.

The fatal squad of the traffic police has taken over the investigation. However, the exact reason behind the accident remains unclear. A senior officer speculated that the biker and the truck may have been speeding, causing one of them to swerve and lose control right before the impact. This theory is yet to be confirmed.

Last year, a series of accidents on DH Road and MG Road prompted authorities to implement measures to reduce accidents. These efforts resulted in a significant decrease in accidents this year. However, the recent accidents, including the student’s death at Behala Chowrasta in August, have been a setback to these efforts.

Previously, all three traffic guards of Behala had conducted a survey to ensure that seven crucial crossings along the eight-kilometer stretch of Diamond Harbour Road between Taratala and Thakurpukur Bazar were free of encroachments. The focus now is on removing hawkers and illegal parking from important crossings such as Taratala, Behala 14 number bus stand, Manton, Ajanta, Behala Chowrasta, Sakherbazar, and Vivekananda College-Thakurpukur Bazar.

Authorities at Lalbazar emphasized the importance of road safety and pledged to continue their efforts to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of commuters.
