Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Rangia (Assam), December 3, 2021 – A suspected drug peddler was fatally shot and five individuals, including a policewoman, sustained injuries during a fierce gun battle that ensued between moving vehicles in the Kamrup district of Assam today.
According to Kamrup’s Additional Superintendent of Police, Kalyan Kumar Pathak, a police checkpost had been set up at Agiathuri near Amingaon following intelligence about the possible movement of a vehicle carrying a significant quantity of narcotics.
“Three drug peddlers were traveling in a luxurious car. Upon our request to stop, they began firing at us while still in motion, attempting to flee the scene,” stated ASP Pathak.
“In response, we promptly retaliated and pursued them. During the exchange of gunfire, one of the drug peddlers was instantly killed. Two others sustained injuries,” he added.
Notably, Police Constable Hima Das was also wounded in the gunfight. Additionally, two local residents, Nur Islam and Rebati Bharali, were caught in the crossfire and sustained injuries.
The deceased drug peddler, identified as Salem, hailed from Guwahati, the capital city of Assam.
All the injured individuals were immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital and subsequently transferred to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for further medical attention.
ASP Pathak further disclosed that the police team discovered a bag filled with suspected drugs inside the vehicle.
“During the course of the action, the drug peddlers’ car collided with several other vehicles in the vicinity, resulting in temporary traffic congestion. However, the situation is now under control,” he assured.
