Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : New York City Police Department officers fatally shot a man on Sunday after he allegedly stabbed four family members, set a building on fire, and attacked two police officers. The incident occurred in the Far Rockaway section of Queens and unfolded in the early hours of the morning.
The police received a distressing 911 call from a woman who reported that her cousin was killing her family. Two officers who were patrolling the area responded to the call and encountered a man leaving the premises with luggage. They approached him, but after a brief exchange, he pulled out a knife and began stabbing the officers. One officer was struck in the neck, while the other was stabbed in the face.
In response to the attack, one of the officers drew his gun and fired at the suspect, later identified as Courtney Gordon, aged 38. Gordon, who was visiting his family from the Bronx, was pronounced dead upon his arrival at a local hospital. It was revealed that he had a prior arrest for strangulation and domestic violence in the Bronx.
The situation grew more tragic as additional officers arrived at the scene. An 11-year-old girl, who had sustained stab wounds, was found outside the house and later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The officers faced a significant obstacle before entering the building, as the living room and foyer were engulfed in flames. Investigators believe that Gordon intentionally set a couch on fire before leaving the premises.
Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters made a grim discovery inside the house. Three more victims were found dead with stab wounds: a 12-year-old boy, a 44-year-old woman, and a man in his 30s. Furthermore, a 61-year-old woman was found with multiple stab wounds and is currently in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital.
The officers who were stabbed in the incident were transported to Jamaica Hospital and are expected to recover. Authorities have recovered a kitchen steak knife, believed to be the weapon used in the attack. They are now investigating if it was also used to harm all the victims.
Patrick Hendry, the head of the New York Police Department’s police union, described the scene as chaotic, with multiple victims, a burning house, and a perpetrator on a rampage. The investigation into this horrific incident is ongoing.
