German-Filipino citizen (victim) : Paris Knife Attacker Swore Allegiance to ISIS, Had Mental Health Issues

Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Terrorist Attack Near Eiffel Tower: Assailant Pledged Allegiance to ISIS

In a shocking incident near the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris, a tourist was brutally stabbed to death by a man who had sworn allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS) group. French anti-terrorist prosecutors confirmed the assailant’s connection to the extremist organization through a video that he had posted on social media. This revelation has once again raised concerns about the growing threat of radicalization in France.

The attacker was already on the radar of authorities due to his radicalized Islamist beliefs and his online connections with individuals involved in previous attacks in the country. Moreover, he was also under close psychological surveillance for mental health issues. In fact, his mother had expressed concerns about his behavior as recently as October, but legal action could not be taken due to insufficient evidence.

The incident occurred late on Saturday, at a time when France is on high alert amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. The country has witnessed a series of lone-wolf attacks, further exacerbating the security situation. The assailant, a French national born in 1997 to Iranian parents, targeted a 23-year-old German-Filipino citizen. Armed with a hammer and a knife, he dealt two fatal blows with the former and followed it with four more from the latter. The attack took place at approximately 9:30 pm Paris time.

Shouting the familiar extremist phrase “Allahu Akbar” (meaning “God is greatest”), the assailant attempted to flee the scene but was pursued by a brave taxi driver who eventually managed to intervene. The attacker then made his escape over the Bir Hakeim bridge, which spans the River Seine.

This tragic incident once again highlights the urgent need for effective counter-terrorism measures and enhanced efforts to identify and intervene in cases of radicalization. The French authorities must intensify their focus on monitoring individuals who exhibit signs of extremist beliefs and mental health issues. It is crucial to prevent future attacks and protect innocent lives.
