On Saturday afternoon, deputies received a call about a possible car crash in the area. Upon their arrival, they discovered a man named Griffin Chase Smith, 19, inside a white 2020 Dodge Ram pickup truck. Smith had been shot prior to the crash and was rushed to the hospital. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
Further investigation by detectives revealed that Smith had been shot near a Dollar General store located at 198 Marion Oaks Blvd. After being shot, Smith drove away in his truck and eventually stopped about a mile away behind the community center.
