Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : BEL AIR, Maryland – A tragic incident unfolded in Harford County as a woman has been charged in the death of her 3-year-old son. The heart-wrenching scene was discovered by an off-duty Harford County Sheriff’s Deputy early Sunday morning.
At approximately 5:30 a.m., the deputy spotted a woman standing in the middle of the 400 block of N. Main Street in Bel Air, cradling her lifeless child. The woman was immediately taken into custody, and authorities sprang into action to save the young boy.
Police swiftly arrived at the scene and began performing life-saving measures on the 3-year-old, later identified as Jason Garcia from Morganton, North Carolina. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) crews rushed the boy to the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. Tragically, despite their best efforts, Jason was pronounced dead at approximately 6 a.m.
The mother, 37-year-old Gloria Elena Hughes from Morganton, now faces grave charges. She has been charged with first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death in connection with the incident. Hughes is currently held at the Harford County Detention Center, awaiting further legal proceedings.
