Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Six individuals have tragically lost their lives and six more have sustained injuries after their vehicle plunged into a gorge near Sunni in Shimla district on Monday morning, according to local authorities. The devastating incident occurred at Kudharghat, approximately 35 km away from Shimla, when the driver of the ill-fated pickup truck lost control of the vehicle, leading to the harrowing accident.
Among the 12 occupants of the vehicle, nine individuals hailed from Kolgam in Jammu and Kashmir and were working as laborers in Himachal Pradesh. They were en route to Mandi from Sunni when the unfortunate mishap occurred, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. Tragically, three laborers lost their lives immediately, while three others succumbed to their injuries upon arrival at a nearby hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Farid (24), Gulab (43), Sahbir (19), Talib (23), Gulzar (30), and Mustak (30), as confirmed by Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi. The injured individuals, namely Ranjit (the driver), Aslam, Talib Hussain, Akash Kumar, Ajay Thakur, and Manjoor, are currently receiving treatment at the Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital (IGMCH).
In response to this tragic incident, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed his profound grief and directed the district authorities to provide immediate relief to the bereaved families and ensure the injured receive the best possible medical care. The Chief Minister’s statement emphasized the importance of extending support and compassion to those affected by this heart-wrenching tragedy.
In a separate incident in the Vikasnagar area of Shimla city, a truck collided with four vehicles, causing substantial damage. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in this particular accident. However, it serves as a reminder of the ongoing road safety concerns in the region.
According to police data, from January 1 to November 23, 2023, Shimla district has witnessed a distressing total of 260 accidents resulting in 110 fatalities and 401 injuries. These alarming statistics highlight the urgent need for comprehensive measures to enhance road safety in the area and protect the lives of residents and visitors alike.
