Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Three individuals have tragically lost their lives in what authorities are labeling a murder-suicide that unfolded on Friday evening. The horrifying incident is said to have stemmed from a “domestic dispute,” according to Athens-Clarke police.
The distressing killings were reported around 11 p.m. in the Massey Lane neighborhood, situated in the northern part of Athens near Freeman Drive. Shockingly, all three victims resided on the same street, amplifying the sense of tragedy and devastation.
The shooter has been identified as 31-year-old Mangell Maivena, who fatally shot the other two individuals before turning the gun on himself. The victims have been named as 26-year-old Juliana Navarnete-Moreno and 20-year-old Hugo Martinez-Cerritos. Moreno tragically lost her life at the scene, while Cerritos initially survived but succumbed to his injuries on Sunday at a local hospital.
Authorities have revealed that Maivena was armed with a pistol during the incident; however, they have chosen to withhold information regarding the specific caliber of the firearm used.
Athens-Clarke County Coroner Sonny Wilson has confirmed that the families of the deceased have been notified in their respective home countries of Guatemala and Nicaragua. Additionally, it has been revealed that Maivena was the ex-husband of Juliana Navarnete-Moreno.
According to police reports, Moreno and Cerritos arrived at Maivena’s residence on Massey Lane in a 2013 Toyota Camry. It was during this visit that a domestic dispute escalated tragically, leading to the fatal outcome.
