Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Scrap Dealer and Three Others Arrested for Demanding Protection Money at Gunpoint from Doctor in Delhi

In a shocking incident in northeast Delhi’s Bhajanpura, four individuals, including a scrap dealer, were apprehended by the police for allegedly demanding protection money from a doctor at gunpoint. A 16-year-old boy was also taken into custody in connection with the case. The arrested individuals were identified as Haider Ali alias Sameer (18), Faisal Pathani (18), Sakib (19), and Mohammad Zaim (23). Two more suspects involved in the extortion attempt are currently on the run.

The incident came to light when the police received information about the incident at a clinic in North Ghonda at 11.30 pm on Friday. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Joy Tirkey, the accused entered the clinic posing as patients and demanded a whopping sum of Rs 5 lakh from the doctor as protection money.

The police swiftly swung into action, obtaining CCTV footage of the clinic and forming teams to crack the case. Within a few hours of the incident, Ali and the juvenile were apprehended. Later, three more individuals were arrested on charges of conspiracy.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Zaim, a scrap dealer, was the mastermind behind the crime. He confessed that some people had demanded protection money from the doctor the previous month, and he complied. This incident motivated him to plan a similar extortion scheme and recruit the other individuals to carry out the act. However, his involvement is still under investigation.

Interestingly, Ali has a criminal record, having been previously apprehended in a murder and a robbery case when he was a juvenile. Sakib, on the other hand, was released on bail two months ago after being detained in a theft case.

The police managed to recover the pistol used in the crime from Pathani. A case has been registered against the accused under sections 387 (putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt in order to commit extortion) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention) of the Indian Penal Code at the Bhajanpura police station.

The swift action taken by the police in apprehending the suspects has brought some relief to the doctor and the local community. Such criminal activities not only instill fear but also disrupt the peace and harmony of the neighborhood. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are determined to bring all those involved to justice.
