Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Cyclone Michaung Live Updates: Heavy rainfall and severe waterlogging have caused several areas of Chennai to be inundated as Cyclone Michaung approaches the North Tamil Nadu coast. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in Chennai and surrounding areas for the next 24 hours. Balachandran, Chennai Regional Meteorology Director, stated that Cyclone Michaung, currently 100 km from Chennai, is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by noon today. It will move parallel to the coast of north Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh, crossing Nellore-Machilipatnam tomorrow at 4 noon. Heavy rainfall and strong winds will continue in Chennai and surrounding districts.
Due to the heavy rainfall and water flowing above the danger level at bridge no.14 between Basin bridge and Vyasarpadi, several train services have been changed or suspended. Trains such as the Dr MGR Chennai Central – Mangaluru Central West Coast Express, Dr MGR Chennai Central Thiruvananthapuram Central Express, Dr MGR Chennai Central-Mangaluru Central, and Dr MGR Chennai Central Jolarpettai Yelagiri Express have been affected.
The IMD has also issued a red alert for Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on December 4th and 5th, predicting extremely heavy rains. The impact of the cyclonic storm has caused severe waterlogging and power outages in Chennai. Low-lying areas and residential parts have been inundated, leading to traffic jams in several parts of the city. The Chennai Metro has shared advisories for passengers, and the Greater Chennai Corporation has issued helpline numbers for citizens to seek help with flood-related issues.
The Chennai Airport has announced the closure of departure and arrival operations till tonight due to severe weather conditions. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel have been working to rescue people from waterlogged areas in Tiruvallur district. Thillai Ganga Nagar Subway in Chennai’s Alandur has been closed due to severe waterlogging.
The IMD has also provided rainfall updates for North Coastal Tamil Nadu & Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and Odisha, stating that heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected in these regions.
Several express trains from Chennai Central have been cancelled due to the water level reaching the danger mark at Bridge No. 14 between Vyasarpadi and Basin Bridge.
