Victims/deceased: Ishtiyaq : “Lucknow Police Arrest SI and Head Constable for Kidnapping and Extortion”

Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Lucknow: Two police officers, Sub-inspector (SI) Anurag Dwivedi and head constable Yusuf Ali, have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a businessman. The incident took place in Hasanganj police station. The accused officers allegedly extorted money from the businessman, Ishtiyaq, who deals in woolen garments. The station house officer, Raj Kumar Singh, was suspended for his failure to take action in the case.

An FIR has been lodged against SI Anurag Dwivedi, head constable Yusuf Ali, a dismissed constable named Dhirendra Yadav, and three history-sheeters identified as Nazim, Shekhar alias Chunnu, and Dinesh Gupta. The charges include assault, robbery, and illegal captivity of the businessman.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Aparna Rajat Kaushik, the accused officers and their accomplices held Ishtiyaq captive at a guest house in Nirala Nagar. They demanded a ransom of Rs 1.25 lakh within 24 hours for his release. The senior officer also revealed that the accused had knowledge of Ishtiyaq’s criminal past, as he had been named in several theft cases.

The situation took a turn when Shekhar, one of the accused who had recorded a video of the assault on Ishtiyaq, posted it online. The video quickly went viral, and Ishtiyaq lodged a complaint with the Hasanganj police station. Following the investigation, it was discovered that all six accused had traveled to Azamgarh to carry out the kidnapping.

Surveillance footage and CCTV footage provided crucial evidence of the involvement of the accused. The arrest of the two police officers, along with the suspension of the station house officer, showcases the commitment of the police department to take action against any misconduct within their ranks.

The incident has sparked outrage among the public, who are demanding stricter action against the accused. The arrest of the police officers serves as a reminder that no one is above the law and that those responsible for criminal activities will be held accountable.
