The incident took place on Wednesday, November 29, in the area of northbound mile 45 in Portland. A Honda Civic, traveling in the wrong direction at a high rate of speed, collided head-on with a Toyota Rav4. The impact was so severe that both vehicles immediately burst into flames, resulting in the deaths of the driver and passenger in the Honda Civic, as well as the driver of the Toyota Rav4.
The driver of the Toyota Rav4 has been identified as Alpha Anastacio, a 33-year-old resident of Portland. The driver of the Honda Civic was identified as Brandon Crawford-Adams, a 23-year-old from Old Orchard Beach, and his passenger was identified as Julia Chapdelaine, a 22-year-old from Dudley, Massachusetts.
The Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson, Shannon Moss, stated that all three individuals were already deceased when first responders arrived at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed the identities of the victims. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
Prior to colliding with the Toyota Rav4, the Honda Civic had also struck a silver 2020 Ford F-150 pickup truck near northbound mile marker 48. Fortunately, the driver of the truck escaped unharmed and only reported minor vehicle damage.
