Dhanbad, India – A jailer and five prison staff have been suspended following the fatal shooting of Aman Singh, one of the accused in the Dhanbad deputy mayor murder case, inside Dhanbad Jail on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred after a dispute among inmates, according to police reports.
The administration conducted an investigation to ascertain the lapses that led to the incident. As a result, Jailer Md Mustkin Ansari has been suspended, and departmental action has been recommended against him, stated Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner Barun Ranjan. Additionally, five prison staff members, known as “kaksha pal,” have also been suspended, while the contracts of two others have been terminated.
In light of the incident, the authorities have recommended the transfer of Dhanbad Jail Superintendent M Barua. Furthermore, 23 prisoners will be relocated to other jails within the state, added Ranjan. The main accused in the shooting case, Sunder Mahto, has been identified and is currently undergoing interrogation.
To ensure the safety and security of the prison, four FIRs have been filed, and the hospital ward where the shooting occurred has been barricaded, according to officials. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
