Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) has launched an inquiry into an officer-involved shooting that transpired in the early hours of Monday morning at an apartment complex in Kansas City, Kansas.

The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department (KCKPD) reached out to the KBI, requesting their expertise in conducting an investigation on December 4th, at approximately 3:20 a.m. Promptly responding to the call, KBI agents and the Crime Scene Response Team were dispatched to the scene to initiate a thorough examination.

Preliminary reports suggest that at around 2:55 a.m., a concerned citizen dialed 911 to report the sound of gunfire originating from the parking lot of an apartment complex situated near the intersection of 61st St. and Leavenworth Rd. Upon arriving at the scene, KCKPD officers noticed an individual on the second floor of one of the apartment buildings, leaning out of a window, wielding a rifle. In response, the officer discharged a single round, striking Lee in the shoulder.

Law enforcement swiftly entered the apartment and apprehended Lee without any further complications. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived on the scene and promptly transported him to a Kansas City hospital for medical attention. Fortunately, none of the officers sustained any injuries during the incident.

Following his release from the hospital earlier today, Lee was immediately taken into custody on a warrant for aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer. At approximately 4:50 p.m., he was booked into the Wyandotte County Jail. It is important to remember that all suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

The KBI is urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and provide any pertinent information by calling 1-800-KS-CRIME. The KBI is committed to conducting a comprehensive and unbiased investigation into this shooting. Once the investigation is concluded, the findings will be presented to the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office for further review.
