Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : 25-year-old Jake Turnage, a flight engineer assigned to the 21st Special Operations Squadron, 353rd Special Operations Wing, Yokota Air Base, Japan, has been identified as one of the eight men who tragically lost their lives in an aircraft mishap just off the coast of Japan. The Air Force had been conducting an extensive search for the airmen, and while several remains have been located or recovered, the search is still ongoing for two more airmen. The crash occurred on Wednesday when the CV-22 Osprey aircraft crashed off the shore of Yakushima Island in Japan. This incident has led to Japan suspending all flights involving its Ospreys and requesting the U.S. military to ground its Ospreys in the region.
The Osprey aircraft has a history of fatal mishaps dating back to 2007, with over a dozen crashes resulting in more than 50 fatalities, according to a report by the Project on Government Oversight. These statistics highlight the concerns surrounding the safety of this aircraft model.
In the midst of their grief, Jake’s loved ones expressed their faith and gratitude for the support they have received.
