Assistant to Mahout Found Dead near Sethumadai

In a tragic incident, a cavady (assistant to mahout) attached to the Kozhikamuthy elephant camp of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR) was discovered dead near Sethumadai earlier this week. The deceased has been identified as Rajkumar, a 35-year-old permanent cavady who had been serving at the camp near Top Slip.

Authorities from the Anamalai Tiger Reserve reported that Rajkumar’s lifeless body was found near the Manakadavu Amman temple, approximately 10 meters away from the Sethumadai – Top Slip road. This area falls under the Sethumadai west section of the Pollachi forest range, which is part of the ATR.

The troubling discovery was made after Rajkumar had been absent from his duties for the past three days. Concerned about his sudden absence, officials alerted the Police and Revenue Department, who swiftly arrived at the scene. A case has been registered by the police, and an investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of death.

A senior official from the Anamalai Tiger Reserve stated that the exact cause of Rajkumar’s demise would only be known once the police investigation is complete. The authorities are working diligently to uncover the truth behind this unfortunate incident.
