Calgary homicide investigators have released CCTV images of a vehicle of interest in connection with the murder of Thane Cameron Clayton. They are urging the public to come forward with any information that may help locate the vehicle and its driver.

The vehicle in question is described as a blue Honda Pilot, manufactured between 2016 and 2022. It is believed to have been present in the area of the Beltline shooting at around 8:50 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023.

CCTV footage reveals that the vehicle was seen traveling both eastbound and westbound on 10th Avenue S.W. before the shooting occurred. It remained in the vicinity of 10th Avenue S.W. and Sixth Street S.W. prior to the incident. After the shooting, the vehicle fled the scene, heading south on Sixth Street S.W. It ran a red light at 11th Avenue S.W. and then turned west onto 13th Avenue S.W. It continued on 13th Avenue S.W. before eventually turning south on 11th Street S.W.

Authorities are urging anyone in possession of CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the shooting to come forward. Additionally, they are appealing to anyone who may have information about the identity of the vehicle or its driver to contact the police or Crime Stoppers.

The victim, a 40-year-old man whose name has not been released pending next of kin notification, was walking westbound on 10th Avenue S.W. towards Sixth Street S.W. when a dark-colored SUV pulled up. An occupant of the vehicle fired multiple shots at the victim before fleeing the scene. The suspect vehicle was last seen traveling southbound on Sixth Street S.W. and turning onto westbound 13th Avenue S.W.

While it is unclear whether this was a targeted incident, investigators are treating it as a high-priority case. They emphasize the importance of video footage and witness accounts in holding the offenders accountable for this brazen attack.

Detective Lee Treit of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit expressed concern about the incident, stating, “This volatile incident showed a blatant disregard for human life and jeopardized the safety of bystanders.”
