Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Coroner Identifies U.S. Marine Veteran Killed in Tragic Fox Lake Accident
The Lake County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of a 28-year-old man who tragically lost his life after being struck by a pickup truck in Fox Lake on Sunday morning. The victim has been identified as Troy Dowsett, a U.S. Marine veteran hailing from Portsmouth, Virginia.
Following an autopsy conducted on Monday, it was determined that Dowsett succumbed to blunt force injuries sustained in the collision, as stated by Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.
The incident occurred around 1:55 a.m. on Sunday when the Fox Lake Fire Protection District and Fox Lake Police Department were called to respond to a vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of Route 59 and Grand Avenue in Fox Lake.
Fox Lake Police Chief Dawn DeServi informed Lake and McHenry County Scanner that upon arrival, officers discovered a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Dowsett was found lying in the roadway after being struck by a Ford F-150, driven by a 34-year-old man who was traveling southbound on Route 59 at Grand Avenue.
Tragically, Dowsett sustained critical injuries and was immediately transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported in relation to the incident.
The driver of the Ford F-150 remained at the scene and has been fully cooperative with the ongoing investigation, according to Chief DeServi. As of now, no citations have been issued, and no charges have been filed, as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
To aid in the investigation, the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was called in to conduct accident reconstruction. Consequently, the intersection of Route 59 and Grand Avenue was temporarily closed for several hours.
It is important to note that Troy Dowsett was a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran. In light of his tragic passing, Dowsett’s family has set up a GoFundMe account to raise funds to transport his remains back to Virginia and cover the costs of his funeral service.
As the investigation into this heartbreaking incident continues, both MCAT and the Fox Lake Police Department remain dedicated to finding answers and providing closure for Dowsett’s grieving family and loved ones.
