Dejon D. Wooden : “$250,000 Worth of Drugs Seized After High-Speed Chase on Interstate 57”

Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : More than $250,000 worth of drugs were confiscated by law enforcement officials during a traffic stop after the suspect led officers on a high-speed chase spanning 115 miles on Interstate 57 in Williamson County, Illinois.

The suspect, identified as Dejon D. Wooden from Los Angeles, California, now faces multiple felony charges and misdemeanor traffic violations. Wooden was cited for cannabis trafficking, possession with intent to deliver cannabis, controlled substance trafficking, aggravated assault, aggravated fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, speeding, driving on the shoulder, disobeying a stop sign, and improper lane usage. He has been taken into custody and is currently being held at the Williamson County Jail.

According to a press release from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 9:22 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5. Deputies attempted to pull over Wooden’s vehicle for traffic violations, but he refused to stop and continued northbound on I-57 near mile post 60. During the chase, the suspect displayed dangerous behavior, including attempting to run deputies off the road and reaching speeds of around 100 miles per hour. The pursuit finally came to an end in Effingham, Illinois, after Williamson County deputies executed a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle.

Upon searching the vehicle, deputies discovered a significant amount of illegal substances. A total of 80.3 pounds of cannabis and 760 ounces of Promethazine, a schedule 2 narcotic, were seized. Law enforcement officials estimated the street value of the drugs to be over $250,000.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from various other law enforcement agencies during the investigation, including the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, Effingham Police Department, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Mt. Vernon Police Department.
