RAJOURI, Dec 6: A tragic accident occurred this morning on the Rajouri-Poonch highway near Tandwal (Thandikassi) area, resulting in the death of a student and leaving 25 other passengers injured. The incident took place when a Canter mini-bus lost control and overturned after colliding with two parked vehicles. The mini-bus, bearing registration number JK11A/3415, was on its way from Manjakote to Rajouri.

The mishap, suspected to be caused by brake failure, happened at around 9.10 am near Radha Swami Ashram in Tandwal village, merely 3 kilometers from Rajouri City. The impact of the accident claimed the life of 20-year-old Mohammad Wasim, a student from Naili village in Manjakote, who was crushed under the vehicle. The injured passengers, including 16 students, were promptly evacuated from the scene with the assistance of the police and transported to GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri for treatment. While some have been discharged after receiving medical attention, the remaining 25 individuals are currently in stable condition.

Medical Superintendent of GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri, Dr. Mahmood Bajar, assured that all the injured are being well-cared for. Upon receiving news of the accident, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal, rushed to the hospital to personally inquire about the condition of the injured students and provide instructions to the hospital authorities to ensure they receive the best possible treatment.

Following the accident, the police have initiated an investigation and seized the mini-bus, while efforts are underway to locate the absconding driver. The students injured in the accident have been identified as Elishba Sadiq, Sultana Mirza, Mehwish Kosar, Shazia Kosar, Sonia, Mohammad Irfan, Abrar Aziz, Mohammad Asif, Hasan Raza, Danish Choudhary, Mohammad Faizan, Tayba Kosar, Sadia Riaz, Shagufta Kosar, Halima Sadia, Abrar Ahmed, and Sonia Kosar, hailing from various villages in Manajkote.

Additionally, those injured in the accident include Shahnawaz Ahmed, Shamim Akhtar, Mohammad Arif, Manoj Kumar, Shahnaz Begum, Mohammad Younas, and Raj Kumar. The body of the deceased student, Mohammad Wasim, has been handed over to his family after necessary post-mortem procedures were conducted.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for regular vehicle maintenance and checks. Authorities are working diligently to ensure the well-being of the injured and to prevent such accidents in the future.
