Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Vigil Held for Murdered Nursing Assistant Odhran Kelly in Lurgan, Co Armagh

A vigil was held on Wednesday evening to remember the life of Odhran Kelly, a nursing assistant who was tragically murdered in Lurgan, Co Armagh. The vigil, which took place on Edward Street, was attended by hundreds of people who came together to honor the memory of a “loving and caring” man who was taken too soon and in a cruel manner.

The body of Mr. Kelly, 23, was discovered on Sunday beside a burning car in Maple Court. Police launched a murder investigation and formally identified Mr. Kelly on Wednesday. The community has been left devastated by this senseless act of violence, and the vigil aimed to provide comfort and support to Mr. Kelly’s family and friends during this difficult time.

John O’Dowd, Sinn Fein MLA for Upper Bann, addressed the crowd, expressing the community’s profound sadness and solidarity with Mr. Kelly’s loved ones. He urged the community not to let this tragedy define Lurgan’s future, but to instead emulate the love and care that Mr. Kelly showed to his family and friends.

Fr Colum Wright, the parish priest in Lurgan, also spoke at the vigil, thanking those in attendance on behalf of the Kelly family. He acknowledged the sudden and violent nature of Mr. Kelly’s death and expressed his gratitude for the love and support shown by the community.

At this stage of the investigation, three individuals, two women aged 36 and 43, and a 31-year-old man, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody. Police do not believe there is an organized crime link to the killing.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Kelly, who is leading the investigation, urged anyone with information to come forward. He specifically appealed to three individuals who were captured on CCTV near the scene of the crime to contact the police as soon as possible.

DUP MP Carla Lockhart echoed the police’s appeal for information, emphasizing the importance of justice being served for the tragic loss of an innocent young man’s life. She also called for any relevant footage circulating on social media to be made available for scrutiny.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the police on 101.
