Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Travis County, Texas – In a shocking turn of events, the man suspected of a killing spree that left six people dead and several others injured has been identified by the police. Shane James, a 34-year-old man, was arrested after a mental health call at his parents’ house, where he was confronted by the police. Surprisingly, James was not arrested at the time despite having a warrant for cutting off his ankle monitor.
According to the Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, James’ parents were among the six people killed in the incident. The suspect will be charged with capital murder in the coming days. Authorities have booked James into the Travis County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
The series of violent incidents began when James allegedly shot an Austin Independent School District police officer outside Northeast Early College High School. Fortunately, the officer’s injuries are not life-threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery. Following this, a man and a woman were found dead in the 7300 block of Shadywood Drive, and a cyclist was shot on West Slaughter Lane. The cyclist’s injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.
Later in the day, a 911 call reported a burglary on Austral Loop, and an officer responded promptly. James, who was found in the backyard of the home, opened fire on the officer, striking him multiple times. The officer returned fire but did not hit James, who fled the scene in a vehicle. After a pursuit, James was apprehended after crashing at the intersection of South Highway 45 and FM 1826.
Inside the home on Austral Loop, authorities discovered two deceased individuals. The officer who was shot was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
The connection between James and a home in East Bexar County prompted authorities to contact the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arriving at the house, deputies found two people in their 50s dead in a small room. The sheriff stated that it appeared the victims had been killed elsewhere and moved to the location where they were found.
The motive behind these attacks remains unclear, and authorities continue to investigate. The nature of the relationship between the suspect and the victims is yet to be determined.
